The Jersey Barnyard

Yesterday, we took the kids along with the Gibbons Family to the Jersey Barnyard in La Grange. The kids had such a blast. Our original plan was to have a picnic lunch take a tour of Blue Bell Creamery and then head to the barnyard. Once, we got out the door and on the road we start to analyze our time and realized that we could not make both the Creamery and Barnyard. Since we knew the kids would have more fun a the barnyard we altered our plans just a little.

Our first stop was the Bastrop State Park for a picnic lunch and to let the kids explore a little. It was such a nice day and the kids loved being able to run around for a while.

After our picnic we loaded back up and headed to La Grange. We had planned it out to have enough time to take pictures in the blue bonnets and then do the 4 o'clock tour, so the kids could get to see how they milk the cows and also get a chance to milk one. The kids really enjoyed feeding all the little animals they had. We got to feed goats, chickens, rabbits, ducks, and a baby calf. I was really surprise at how uneasy Ryan was about feeding some of the animals, while Zach had no fear at all. After feeding and checking out all the animals we took a hay ride to see Ethel and to the milking barn. Ethel is a 700 pound pig that has never had piglets. I have never seen a pig that big. She even got up and came to the fence so the kids could pet her. After seeing Ethel we head to the milking barn. All the kids took a turn milking a cow, but Ryan he did not want to even try. Not sure what was up with him, because that was all he talked about before we went. When we were done at the milking barn, we headed back up to front to get some ice cream before heading home.

It was such a nice day and I think we are going to make it annual thing to take the kids. They really enjoyed it as much a we did.
