It was truly a stressful weekend for us. Saturday morning we woke up and started to get ready for Ry's baseball game. Chris went to go clean out his truck and say hi to the dogs. When he got to them he noticed that 3 out of the 4 had swollen face and necks. We have seen this before when Chloe and Jake got bitten by a rattlesnake about 4 1/2 years ago. So instead of Chris loading up car seats he loaded up the dogs and took them to the vet. The kids and I loaded up my car and headed to the baseball game. Also, Chris was suppose to coach this game, because our coaches could not be there. As I was getting to his parents house to pick up Grandma to have an extra pair of hands to help with Zach and MaKinley, Chris called to say that he was right behind me and the vet was going to get Chloe and Jake started on medicine and get Hunter started on IV and meds because he was worse than the other two. I was also very worried and scared because we did not know when they had gotten bitten or where the snake was. After that, it was a sit and wait game to see how they came out.
On, Sunday Chris got out in the pen to start weed eating so we could put down snake be gone. As he went into the pen he found the snake, dead. Thank God. The best we can think is that they had gotten bitten on Friday evening while we were out to dinner and that Hunter was probably the one who had killed it since he had more bites.
That evening the vet called to update us that Chloe and Jake were doing fine and that had reduced their medicine, but Hunter was not responding like he would like to see and was in a lot of pain. That night going to bed I prayed that God would provide Hunter the comfort that he needed weather it was him making a turn for the better or him passing in his sleep so he would not suffer anymore. I was hoping he would make a turn for the better, but I guess God had other plans for Hunter. The vet has checked on Hunter last night around 10:30 pm was still hanging in there resting comfortably with pain meds. This morning when they got there Hunter had passed sometime in the night. I am glad that he went peacefully and Chris and I did not have to make that hard and difficult decision.
Hunter was such a good dog. As a pup he reminded us of the K9 Advantage dog. He loved attention. Anytime we would take him to Research park in College Station he would stop every person who walked by so the would have to pet him. As he got older he was like a big teddy bear. He has such a carefree demeanor. He was so good with the kids and loved them so much. We will truly miss him.
