It all started the Sunday after Thanksgiving, December 1, when Ryan started to complain about his throat hurting and had a low grade fever. So on Monday I took him to the doctor and he had strep throat. So instead of starting at his new school, he got to stay home for 2 days and start school on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, December 3, all the kids went to school, but during the night on Wednesday Zach woke up running a fever and coughing. So on Thursday, we took him in tot he doctor and were given antibiotics since we were sure it was strep too and told to start on breathing treatments.
By the weekend, the boys were feeling better so they went with Paw Paw and Daddy to Cabela's while, Grandma, MaKinley, and I went to a baby shower for Aunt Sarah. When we got home that afternoon MaKinley started running a fever and Zach was still running a fever. They both continued to run fevers the rest of the weekend.
On Monday, December 9, I took MaKinley in to the doctor and she had an ear infection and was given medicine and I also asked again about Zach's fever that had not gone away and his cough that had seem to be getting worse. She since he was already on antibiotics it was probably a viral infection and to just keep up with the breathing treatments.
By Tuesday, December 10, he was still not better, but was still acting normal except for the cough and when the fever would come back. So I took him back to our doctor and they listened to him and said they did not here anything on his chest and that it was best just continue to do breathing treatments. Well, that afternoon he took a turn for the worst and became very lethargic and did not want to do anything.
That evening Chris' mom had talked to my sister-in-law and she told her about how when my niece had pneumonia the only way they found it was by a chest x-Ray.
So Wednesday morning, December 11, I called our doctor and he ordered a chest x-Ray. Sure enough he had pneumonia. So back to the doctor we went for 2 big shots of rocefrin (not sure on the spelling) and some different antibiotics. Well, that night his breathing and O2 stats got worse so we took him to the ER. Where the admitted him. I think is was about 2:00 in the morning by the time we got into a room. That night was a long night.
Thursday morning was still rough, the doctor could come by till lunch time and the orders for Motrin fell off his his chart so we had to wait for new orders and for them to get the medicine. Once the doctor came and they were able to get him medicine for his fever and some zopinex for his breathing within an hour or so he complete turned around and started to perk up and act normal. His appetite started to come back and he actually wanted to sit up and even color some if the pages that Nana And Papo brought up to the hospital when they came to see him.
Thursday night was much better, they only came in once during the night for a breathing treatment.
Friday, we continued with the breathing treatment during the day. They also were able to take out the IV. His fever had also broken sometime Thursday night.
Friday evening Dr. Owens (our pediatrician) came to visit us and told us that if he continued to improve he could go home Saturday. Chris stayed Friday night with Zach and it's a good thing he did because I started to run a fever.
Saturday, December 14, I woke up feeling a little better but still had a fever. Chris called around 9:30 or so and said that he had the discharge papers and when we all got ready we could come pick them up.
Zach was so glad to be able to come home. He still had to take it easy and could not go to school the next week and to follow up on Monday at the doctors office.
