Caiden William

We welcomed Caiden William into our family on December 4, 2014 at 12:20 pm. He weighed 8 lbs. 8 oz. and was 20 3/4 inches long.

Here is how our day went before his arrival.

I was schedule to be induced that morning. I had to be at the hospital in San Antonio at 5:15 that morning, which meant that we had to get up at 3 o'clock in morning to leave our house by 4:00 am.

When we arrived at the hospital, we were told that they were in a holding. Supposedly, between 4 and 5 o'clock that morning they had 4 people walk-in in active labor and were not leaving. Since I was an elective induction, I had to wait till shift change. We also found out that they had tried to call us to wait to come, but since we had a little bit of a drive, we had already left the house when they called. The nurse told us she was not sure how long we would have to wait and there was even a chance depending on how many more walk-ins they had that it might not even happen that day. I was very worried about being sent home. We had looked forward to this day and to go home would have been very hard.

We ended up waiting in the waiting area and around 7:30 a nurse came to get us and take us back to a room. Things were slow getting started. Since my group-b strep was positive, I had to have 2 rounds of antibiotics before delivery. A little after 8:30, the nurses finally got my pitocin and antibiotics going. She also put name in line for an epidural, since they were so busy and I knew that I would want one she did not want me to get to a point were I would really need it and then have to wait.

The anesthesiologist came in a little after 10:00 and then my doctor came in to break my water at about 10:50. When she broke my water I was still only 3 cm dilated. About 45 minutes later my nurse came in to check me and I had gone from 3 cm to 7 cm. She was very surprised and told me not to move, because my doctor was fixing to go into surgery for about an hour and she did not want her to miss delivering him. Also they had to get my second round of antibiotics going. About 10 minutes later the nurse came back in and I was fully dilated. Thankfully, she was able to catch my doctor before she went into surgery and she was able to come and do the delivery.  I started pushing at 12:15 and after 5 pushes Caiden arrived at 12:20 pm. He came out very bruised from such a fast delivery, but it soon went away after about a day.

I have to say that I was a little worried that it was going to be a long day since we got such a late start on everything, but he is by far my fast delivery.

Later that afternoon Nana and Papo brought Ryan, Zachary, and MaKinley up to the hospital to meet their new brother. They all loved him from the start and were so glad that he was finally here. Then Grandma and Pawpaw came to meet their new grandson.

We stayed only one night in the hospital. We had planned on staying 2 nights, but by around 11:00 on Friday morning I was so ready to go home.

Before we left Grandpa Billy came by to meet Caiden. Grandma Witch was not feeling well and so she was not able to come with him, but since we were leaving that afternoon and they live right down the road from the hospital we stopped by their house so she could meet her newest great-grandson.

We finally got home around 5:00pm and the kids were so glad to have us home and I was so glad to be home.
